The canvas
Move around, add chats, and select, arrange, colour, tag, copy and delete what's on your canvas.
The canvas is an endless surface, like a whiteboard. Everything you work with sits on it: your chats, the cards your agents build, and Morphy itself. Each project has its own canvases, so a canvas only holds what belongs together.
Move around
| To | Do this |
|---|---|
| Pan | Scroll, drag with the middle mouse button, or hold Space and drag |
| Pan sideways | Shift + scroll |
| Zoom | Ctrl + scroll, or pinch on a trackpad (zooms around the pointer) |
| Zoom in steps | Ctrl + = and Ctrl + -, or the Zoom in and Zoom out buttons top right |
| Jump somewhere | Click or drag in the canvas map, bottom right |
You can zoom from 15% to 250%. Scrolling over a card pans the canvas, unless that card is selected: then the card scrolls its own content.
Far away. Below 25%, chats turn into a simple face: the chat's name, its AI and whether it's Working… or Needs you. Cards keep their picture with the name on top. That makes a busy canvas easy to read at a glance, and at that distance you can drag a card by grabbing it anywhere.
Canvas only. Press Ctrl + Shift + F, or click the ⤢ button top right, to hide everything but the canvas: the sidebar, the tabs and the side dock. Esc brings them back (press it again if something is still selected).
Add a chat
- Double-click an empty spot to start a new chat there. By default that's a Claude chat.
- Double right-click an empty spot for a second kind of chat. By default that's Codex.
You can choose what each gesture makes in Settings → General → Double-click makes and Double right-click makes. As long as you haven't changed these, a gesture whose AI isn't connected yet uses one you have connected instead (any but Ollama). An AI you picked yourself is always used, connected or not. The new chat works in the folder of the project you're looking at. See Chats and agents for everything a chat can do.
Morphy also builds things on the canvas for you: ask it for a dashboard, a tracker or a tool and it appears as a card.
Select
- Click a chat or card to select it and bring it to the front.
- Shift + click adds to the selection.
- Drag on empty canvas to draw a box around several items.
- Click empty canvas or press Esc to deselect.
A toolbar floats above whatever you've selected. Most of what follows starts there.
Move, resize and arrange
- Move: drag an item by its title bar. Everything selected moves along. The arrow keys nudge the selection (hold Shift for bigger steps).
- Snap beside another card: hold Ctrl while you drag one card near another. It lines up next to it at the same size, with a preview of where it will land.
- Resize: drag any edge or the bottom-right corner. With several items selected, the corner scales the whole group.
- Tidy up: select two or more items and click Arrange into a tidy grid. They line up in a row or a grid and even out to one size.
- Back to the original size: for chats, the toolbar has Restore this chat's original size.
Dragging an item to the edge of the screen scrolls the canvas along with it. Press Esc during a drag to cancel it and put everything back.
Move to another canvas
Drag a card or chat off the canvas and onto a tab or a canvas in the sidebar to move it there. See Projects and canvases.
Colour, size and tags
The selection toolbar also has:
- Card color: tint an item in one of ten colours (Teal, Mint, Sky, Cyan, Iris, Rose, Amber, Coral, Lime, Slate), or No colour.
- Make content smaller / larger: the text size inside the item, from 65% to 180%.
- Card background opacity: make the background see-through, so your wallpaper shows behind it. Even at the lowest setting it stays half opaque, so text stays readable.
- Add or remove tags: pick Work, Personal, Research, Ideas or Design, or type your own under Custom tag… (up to 8 per item).
A tag with a project's name moves the item
Projects work through tags: an item tagged with a project's name belongs to that project. Adding such a tag moves the item into the project; removing it sends the item back to Home.
Copy and paste
Select chats or cards and press Ctrl + C, then Ctrl + V. The copies land just below and to the right, already selected.
- A copied card becomes a new card file of its own (
name-copy.html). - A copied chat keeps its AI, folder, model, settings, colour and tags, but starts a fresh conversation.
If you've highlighted text, Ctrl + C copies the text instead.
Copy as context. The toolbar button Copy these cards as context copies what's in the selected items so you can paste it into any chat.
Delete and bring back
Delete an item with its ✕, with the trash button in the toolbar, or with Delete. The Delete key only removes cards, never chats, so a stray key press can't end a conversation. A chat can't be closed while its agent is working: stop it first.
Changed your mind?
- Ctrl + Z (or Undo top right) brings it straight back. A restored chat picks up the same conversation. Undo also covers moves, resizes, colours, tags and arranging, up to 40 steps. The undo history starts fresh each time Morphy starts.
- For 3 days, anything you deleted can still be restored: press Ctrl + K and type its name, or look for Restore "…". It goes back to the same project, canvas and spot.
Morphy's own chat always stays on the canvas and can't be deleted.
Swarms
Group chats that use the same AI into a swarm, a folder of chats on the canvas: drag one chat and hold it over another for a moment, or select several and click Create a swarm from selected chats. Double-click a swarm to open its chats side by side. Its ✕ (Disband) puts the chats back on the canvas.
Files and images
Drop files onto a chat to attach them to your next message, or paste an image into a chat's text box. Files don't go on the canvas by themselves: they always go to a chat.
