Troubleshooting
Fixes for the problems people run into most, from installing to chats that won't answer.
Can't find your problem here? Ask in the Discord or email casper.apers@gmail.com. Attaching Morphy's log file helps a lot: it's %APPDATA%\Morphy\logs\morphy.log.
Installing and signing in
Windows says "Windows protected your PC"
That's expected. Morphy is new and isn't signed with a paid Microsoft certificate yet, so Windows doesn't recognise it. Click More info, then Run anyway.
My browser warns about the download
Some browsers flag files they haven't seen often. Choose to keep the file (in Edge: … → Keep; in Chrome: Keep). The installer comes straight from Morphy's GitHub releases.
My antivirus blocked or removed Morphy
Morphy is new and unsigned, which makes some antivirus programs careful. Restore it from quarantine and allow it, or add an exception for %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\morphy. If Keep processor cores free is on in Settings → General, try turning it off: some antivirus programs dislike how it works.
Morphy closed while I was signing in
Closing the sign-in window before you're signed in closes Morphy. Open it again and sign in.
The Google sign-in doesn't come back to Morphy
- Wait a few seconds and click Open Google again, for example if you closed the tab or Google showed "Access blocked".
- "Sign-in failed: fetch failed" means Morphy couldn't reach its sign-in server. Check your internet connection, and that a firewall, VPN or proxy isn't blocking Morphy, then Try again with Google.
- Any other error: click Try again with Google. If it keeps failing, let us know on Discord.
Opening Morphy again does nothing
Morphy only runs once. Opening it again brings the window you already have to the front. Look for it on your taskbar.
Connecting your AI
A chat says an AI "isn't connected" or "isn't installed"
Click Open Settings → Account in the message, then Connect or follow the install steps on that AI's card. See Connect your AI. Then send your message again.
I installed a CLI, but Settings still says "Not installed"
Click Check again on the card. You don't need to restart Morphy. If it still isn't found, open a new terminal and check that the tool runs there (for example codex --version). If it doesn't, the install didn't finish or Node.js is missing.
npm isn't recognised
npm comes with Node.js. Install Node.js (LTS), open a new terminal, and run the command again.
OpenRouter is connected, but its chats don't work
OpenRouter chats (and Ollama chats) run through the Codex CLI. Install it with npm install -g @openai/codex and try again.
"This model needs OpenRouter credits"
You picked a paid model. Add credits at openrouter.ai, or pick one of the free models at the top of the model list.
Ollama: "isn't running", "too old" or "no model that can use tools"
- Start Ollama (or install it).
- Update Ollama to 0.13 or newer.
- Pull a model that can use tools:
ollama pull gpt-oss:20b. - Answers stop halfway or forget things? Set Ollama's context length to 64k or more.
Antigravity says it "skipped a step that needs your approval"
Antigravity can't ask for permission inside Morphy. With the chat's permission button, set it to no guardrails, or workspace write if it only needs to edit files. (The message calls that mode "Auto-accept edits", its name in Claude chats.) See Permissions.
I hit a usage limit
Your AI plan's limit for now is used up. For Claude and Codex, Settings → Plan usage shows when it resets. Meanwhile:
- switch the chat to another AI (click the AI's name in its title bar), or
- sign in with another Claude or Codex account: Reconnect in Settings → Account. Morphy restarts its chats on the new account.
- On OpenRouter, add credits or pick a free model.
Chats
A chat doesn't answer
- If it shows No response for N minutes — stop it, or keep waiting?, the agent may be stuck on a long task. Keep waiting, or Stop and ask again.
- Press stop and send your message again. Stop always ends the turn within a few seconds, and the conversation is kept.
- "… stopped. Send a message to start it again." Just send your message again.
- "Stopped — the turn hit its step limit": the agent did a lot in one go. Type "continue" and it picks up where it left off.
I can't close a chat
A chat can't be closed while its agent is working, so you don't lose work by accident. Stop it first, then close it.
My queued or scheduled message is gone
Queued and scheduled messages only live while Morphy is open. If Morphy restarted, send them again.
An agent did something I didn't want
New chats start in No guardrails, so agents don't ask before changing files. Switch the chat (or the default, in Settings → General → New chats start in) to Ask first. See Permissions.
Canvas and cards
I deleted a card or chat by accident
Press Ctrl + Z. If that's too late, press Ctrl + K and type its name: deleted items can be restored for 3 days.
A card disappeared
An agent may have hidden it. Press Ctrl + K and type its name: the palette lists every card, hidden ones too. Or it moved to another project because it got a tag with that project's name: see tags.
The sidebar, tabs or dock are gone
You may be in Canvas only: click an empty spot on the canvas and press Esc. Otherwise, Ctrl + B brings back the sidebar and Ctrl + Shift + B the terminal and browser.
A shortcut does nothing
Most shortcuts don't work while the cursor is in a text box, like a chat or the terminal. Click an empty spot on the canvas and try again. Zoom, Find, the command palette, Settings and Canvas only work everywhere. See Keyboard shortcuts.
My animated wallpaper doesn't move
Look at the line under the wallpapers in Settings → Appearance:
- "your computer asks apps for less motion": Windows' animation effects are off. Turn them on in Windows Settings → Accessibility → Visual effects.
- Otherwise your computer can't keep up with that shader. Set Animation to Light, or pick a lighter shader.
Shaders are always still in extra Morphy windows.
Morphy's window keeps crashing
Click Reload. Your agents keep running in the meantime. If it keeps happening, quit Morphy, open it again, and send us the log file (%APPDATA%\Morphy\logs\morphy.log).

Updates
How do I get the newest version?
Morphy downloads updates by itself and installs them the next time you quit. Settings → General → Updates shows whether a new version is ready. Quit Morphy, wait a few seconds for the update to install, and open it again. Your version is shown at the bottom of the sidebar.
