Projects and canvases

Give every project its own canvases, folder and terminal, and switch between them with tabs.

A project keeps one piece of your work together: its own canvases, its own folder on your computer and its own terminals. Switch to it and everything is where you left it.

Home is always there. Anything that doesn't belong to a project lives on Home.

Create a project

  1. In the sidebar, click New project, or press Ctrl + K and choose New project….
  2. Give it a Name.
  3. Optionally pick a Folder with Choose…. That can be a code repository, a client folder or anything else on your computer.
  4. Click Create project.

With a folder, every new chat in the project works in that folder, and the project's terminals open there. Without one, a project is just a way to group things.

Already have a folder?

"Opening a folder" in Morphy means creating a project and choosing that folder for it. Your files stay exactly where they are.

To change the folder later, right-click the project in the sidebar and choose Change folder….

The sidebar

The sidebar on the left (the project explorer) shows Home, then your projects as folders. Inside each one:

  • its Main canvas and any other canvases,
  • its saved focus views (see Focus mode).

A dot next to a project tells you an agent in it is working or waiting for you. At the bottom you'll find Search, Settings and the version of Morphy you're running.

Press Ctrl + B to hide or show the sidebar. Drag projects to put them in the order you like.

Right-click a project for Open, Open to the right, Open in new window, New canvas…, Rename…, Change folder… and Delete project….

Deleting a project closes and deletes nothing: its chats and cards lose the project's tag and move to Home.

Canvases

Each project starts with a Main canvas. Add more when one canvas gets busy, for example "Design" and "Backend":

  • click the + next to a project in the sidebar, or
  • press Ctrl + K and choose New canvas in ….

Choose Canvas, give it a Name and click Create canvas. Right-click a canvas to rename or delete it; deleting a canvas moves everything on it to the project's Main canvas.

The project card

Each project's Main canvas has an overview card: the project's folder, how many agents are Working or Need you, its Canvases, and what was Shipped there (the work its agents finished). It has buttons for a New chat and a New canvas.

Tabs

Canvases and focus views you open appear as tabs along the top, across all projects. Home's Main canvas always has a tab, called Canvas, which can't be closed.

  • Switch: click a tab, or press Alt + 1–9 to open a project's Main canvas. Alt + 1 is Home, Alt + 2 your first project, and so on, in sidebar order.
  • Reorder: drag a tab sideways.
  • Close: middle-click it, or right-click for Close, Close others, Close tabs after and Close all.
  • Open something else: the + at the end of the tabs opens the command palette.

A blue number on a tab means agents finished, or are waiting for you, while you were looking elsewhere.

Side by side and in more windows

To see two canvases next to each other, or give one a window of its own (handy on a second screen):

  • In the sidebar, right-click a project, canvas or focus view and choose Open to the right or Open in new window.
  • On a tab, right-click and choose Move to the right or Move to new window. The tab moves there, out of the main strip.
  • Drag a tab out of the strip: drop it on the right side of the canvas, into another Morphy window, or outside Morphy for a new window.

Morphy remembers your windows and split views when you restart.

Move cards between canvases

Drag a card or chat off the canvas and drop it:

Drop it onWhat happens
A canvas tabIt moves to that canvas, in a free spot
A canvas in the sidebarIt moves there, keeping its position
A focus tab or focus viewIt joins that focus
The + at the end of the tabsA new canvas is made with the card on it

Hold the card over a tab or sidebar row for about half a second and that canvas opens, with the card still in your hand, so you can place it yourself. Esc cancels, and Ctrl + Z undoes the whole move.

How projects work under the hood

A chat or card belongs to a project by carrying the project's name as a tag. That's why tagging an item with a project's name moves it there. Project names, folders, canvases and focus views are saved with your canvas, so they're all back after a restart.
